Do I Need a Referral to See a Chiropractor?

No. In Ontario, chiropractors are primary-contact healthcare professionals, which means you can book an appointment directly without a physician's referral.

Some extended health insurance plans may have their own requirements, so it's always worth checking the details of your individual plan.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your first appointment starts with a conversation about your current concern, health history, activities and goals.

Your chiropractor will then perform an appropriate physical examination, which may include assessment of movement, strength, joints, muscles and neurological function.

We'll explain our findings, answer your questions and discuss your options. If chiropractic care is appropriate, we'll develop a plan based on what you're trying to get back to doing.

If your assessment suggests that chiropractic care isn't appropriate—or that further medical investigation or another healthcare professional would be more suitable—we'll discuss that with you.
